Asbestos Training Courses
About Our Asbestos Courses
Exposure to asbestos-containing materials is common in construction industry workplaces anywhere in the world and has been identified as a leading cause of diseases including asbestosis, lung cancer, mesothelioma, and pleural plaques among others. Based on the Health and Safety at Work (Asbestos) Regulations 2016, any contractor in New Zealand involved with asbestos abatement or removal projects must complete an accredited training programme and get certified for safe asbestos handling.
CC Training Academy offers accredited asbestos training for professionals who intend to supervise removal and workers who carry out asbestos removal work under supervision. We deliver all our courses in person at our Takapuna facility (or off-site), so please refer to the full list of asbestos programmes we have developed and are accredited to deliver.
If you are a Person Conducting a Business or Undertaking (PCBU), such as when undertaking work that may disturb asbestos in buildings, we can also offer related services such as asbestos surveys, asbestos air monitoring, preparation of asbestos management plans, and others.
Conduct Asbestos Assessment
We are here to provide more information on asbestos-related issues on top of providing assistance in training your staff. Whether you’re operating in the construction industry or are engaged in building maintenance works or similar trades, you need to be wary of friable and non-friable asbestos, and asbestos-containing material that might be present in your work site.
Upon completion of the programme, you will be equipped with the theoretical and practical knowledge you need to safely handle asbestos in the workplace. You’ll learn about the types of asbestos and how to identify them. We can also guide you on the applicable rules and regulations governing asbestos disposal in New Zealand.
Our workshop classes cover not only the techniques, health and safety protocols, and compliance processes for safe working with asbestos but also the common issues that workers face during an abatement or demolition project.
What training is required for asbestos?

All of these require knowledge in asbestos awareness as well as the practical aspects of working with asbestos.
How many different types of training are there for asbestos?
The type of instruction that you need will depend on the work that you’re carrying out on site, but mainly there are two, Class A and Class B. However, we also offer Supervisor (29767) and Assessor (29768) courses for more experienced professionals.
How long does an asbestos course last?
A session usually lasts for eight (8) hours (1 day) except for the Assessor Course (29768) which is a two-day course, and the awareness seminar which can be completed in half a day.
Is asbestos awareness training a legal requirement?
No, it is not a legal requirement but is highly recommended to give teams a full understanding of the substance and its implications to human health and safety. It is ideal for councils, construction staff, community groups, and anyone whose workplace is in an old building or construction site.
Upon receiving my certificate, can I undertake asbestos removal immediately?
No, you would still need to apply for the relevant licence from WorkSafe. We will guide you through this (and the industry) as you go through the curriculum.
