Course Overview

In 2013, it was reported that NZ’s work health and safety system was failing and as a result, the country underwent its most significant H&S reform after 20 years.

This course covers NZQA Unit Standard 30264, describe duties, rights, representation and the regulator in terms of New Zealand health and safety legislation. It covers the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015, the guiding principle for New Zealand workplace health and safety.

Documentation that supports health and safety in the workplace including approved codes of practice, good practice guides, industry rules and standards, standard operating procedures, permits to work, manufacturers’ guidelines, and safe work instruments are explored in this

Topics Covered

At the end of the course, participants are expected to be able to:

  • Describe key health and safety legislation, documentation that supports health and safety at work and the role of the health and safety regulator
  • Describe key duties and the application of those duties in the workplace in accordance health and safety legislation
  • Describe key roles in terms of worker participation and engagement in relation to the HSWA
