Course Overview

This one day course aims to promote safe working practices, standards, and operating procedures at roadwork sites. It covers the standards and operating procedures required by the Code of Practice for Temporary Traffic Management (COP/TTM).
Who Should Attend

This course is ideal for any personnel carrying out work on or within the boundaries of a road including state highways and local authority roads.

Topics Covered

The course covers basic concepts involving a roadwork site including, but not limited to:

  • Checking traffic management plans
  • Designing traffic management plans depending on the project stage
  • Setting up, checking, and removing road works safety signs
  • Controlling traffic at a project site, particularly stop and go operations
  • Working safely at a roadwork site
  • Using personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Accident reporting
  • Safe operation of plant and vehicle
  • Safety audits at the worksite

By the end of the course, the trainee is expected to:

  • Select and use authorised signage and site protection measures
  • Develop and submit a traffic management plan for a worksite
  • Learn the Code of Practice standards
  • Check and implement traffic management plans
  • Identify and control traffic and other worksite hazards
  • Liaise with site visitors
  • Set up, check, and maintain safe removal of signs at the worksite
  • Understand and apply local road standards
